POLICE AGENCIES. ORO VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT MOTOR DIVISION. By Sergeant John Teachout
It was in 1999 that the department changed from Kawasaki's to BMW primarily due to the integrated ABS system BMW offered. The Motor Division is responsible for traffic enforcement, traffic collisions, patrol support, and a wide variety of special events including marathons, and public festivities. The Department has a strong 'Community Policing' philosophy and partners with the community to create a safer environment for the motoring public. Each officer is issued a take-home BMW motorcycle, rain gear, "Kustom" lidar, and other equipment specific to the duty of a motor officer. The division is required to maintain proficiency by attending an eight hour in-service quarterly. Hours of operation are weekdays covering from 0500-2000 hours. The Motor Division takes great pride in riding excellence, sharp appearance, integrity, and professionalism.
