Motorcycle officer shot in leg; suspect held - Phoenix, AZ
A Phoenix police motorcycle officer was shot in the leg while trying to stop a driver for speeding in west Phoenix.
Officer Mario Gaxiola, an eight-year veteran, was shot early Monday. He was in stable condition but expected to be in the hospital overnight for evaluation.
Kenneth R. Kensey, 26, was arrested in connection with the shooting after being found by a police dog, said Stacie Derge, a Phoenix police spokesperson. advertisement
Gaxiola, 35, attempted to pull over a suspect shortly after midnight near the 4200 block of North 35th Avenue, Derge said.
The driver reportedly shot at the officer from his vehicle several times. Gaxiola was hit in the leg and sought cover without returning fire.
The suspect took off but crashed into bushes in a parking lot. The suspect then ran from the car. A police dog found Kensey hiding under another car in the parking lot, Derge said....

Bibb Motorcycle Deputy Dies from Injuries - Macon, GA
A Bibb Motorcycle Patrol Officer injured in a traffic accident on April 26 died Sunday morning.
Deputy Michael Sean Thomas was riding his Bibb County Harley Davidson west on Emery Highway when a Chevy Pickup driven by Levi Bonner failed to yield. Deputy Thomas hit the pickup. Bonner received minor injuries. Thomas received critical injures and has been in the Medical Center since the accident
Thomas had served Bibb County for eight years. Colleagues said he was an outstanding, decorated co-worker and close friend....
