Giants pitcher Lincecum faces marijuana charge after traffic stop in Vancouver - Hazel Dell, WA
Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum is scheduled to appear in a Clark County courtroom Nov. 23 to face charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia use.

A Washington State Patrol motorcycle officer pulled over the Bellevue native, who now pitches for the San Francisco Giants, at 8:23 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30.

Lincecum’s 2006 Mercedes, northbound on Interstate 5 near the 78th Street exit in the Hazel Dell area, was recorded with a laser device at 74 mph in a 60 mph zone, said Trooper Steve Schatzel, a state patrol spokesman.

When the driver, Lincecum, rolled down his window, the trooper smelled marijuana. When asked, Lincecum reached into the vehicle’s center console and gave the officer a small pouch and a pipe, Schatzel said.

The amount was 3.3 grams — about the size of a thumb, Schatzel said. Anything 40 grams or under is considered for personal use, he said.

For at least part of the traffic stop, the 5-foot-11 Lincecum, who sported a distinctive mane of hair during the baseball season, stood outside the Mercedes. Schatzel was not sure how long the traffic stop lasted.

Lincecum was cited and released, “which is what we normally do for that crime,” Schatzel said.

The speeding citation was for $122. He is expected to be arraigned on Nov. 23 in Clark County District Court. Each of the drug-related offenses carry a possible fine of up to $250.

Schatzel said the motorcycle officer was joined by an officer in a marked patrol car. One of them recognized the name as that of the star pitcher; one of the officers did not know Lincecum’s claim to fame....     Read the full story.

Erie police motorcycle officer hurt in crash during pursuit - Erie, PA
An Erie police officer was injured Sunday after his motorcycle collided with a minivan during a pursuit on East 38th Street.

Patrolman Tom Dunmire was taken by ambulance to Hamot Medical Center.

"He's conscious and alert," Erie police Deputy Chief Randy Bowers said Sunday evening. "We believe he has a leg injury."

Dunmire was released after treatment at Hamot, a nursing supervisor said later Sunday night.

Neither the driver of the van, Tyler Powell, 17, of Greene Township, nor his two passengers were injured.

The crash happened about 4:15 p.m. at East 38th and Perry streets.

Bowers said Dunmire was traveling eastbound on East 38th, pursuing a vehicle for a traffic violation, when the collision occurred.

"The van that was involved was not the vehicle he was chasing," Bowers said.

Powell's Chrysler Town and Country was also eastbound on East 38th Street. Powell and one of his passengers, Michael Ippolito, 19, of Erie, said they were attempting a left turn to go north on Perry when the motorcycle collided with the van on its left. The minivan's front driver-side corner was damaged.

Powell and Ippolito said they didn't see the motorcycle officer before the collision.

Ippolito said that after the crash, which happened near the corner, Dunmire fell off the bike and rolled. The motorcycle kept on going, coming to rest on its side in a yard several houses east of the corner.

The minivan came to a stop in the westbound lanes, facing the intersection's northeast corner....     Read the full story.
